Drug Uses
Lopressor is indicated for treatment of high blood pressure, alone or with other medicines. Long–term treatment of chest pain and reduces the risk of death because of heart problems in patients who have had a heart attack. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How Taken
Use Lopressor as directed by your doctor. Take Lopressor with a meal or straight after the meal.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Lopressor, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Lopressor, if you have tumors on your adrenal gland, have an overactive thyroid, or are scheduled to have surgery, if you have or have a history of liver, heart, or blood circulation problems, if you have diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, bronchospastic disease (difficulty breathing), or a history of asthma, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Lopressor while you are pregnant. Lopressor is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast–feeding while you use Lopressor, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby. Some medicines may interact with Lopressor. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Lopressor if you have a very low heart rate condition, heart failure controlled by diuretics (e.g., furosemide) and digoxin, or very low systolic blood pressure (less than 100 mm Hg) or if you are taking mibefradil. If you have angina or have had other heart problems, do not suddenly stop taking Lopressor without first consulting your doctor. If your doctor decides you should no longer use Lopressor, you will need to stop Lopressor gradually according to your doctor's instructions. Do not take any medicines used to treat colds or congestion without first consulting with your doctor or pharmacist. Lopressor may affect your blood sugar. If you are a diabetic check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Lopressor before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery. Lab tests, including liver and kidney function, blood pressure, and complete blood cell counts, may be performed while you use Lopressor. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Lopressor should be used with extreme caution in children. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Blurred vision, cold hands and feet, confusion, constipation, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth/eyes, gas, hair loss, headache, heartburn, itching, lightheadedness, mild drowsiness, muscle aches, nausea, nightmares, ringing in the ears, short–term memory loss, sleeplessness, stomach pain, unusual tiredness or weakness. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain, fainting, pounding in the chest, swelling of the arms, hands, and feet, wheezing, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Storage
Store Lopressor at 77 °F (25 °C), excursions permitted to 59 to 86 °F (15 to 30 °C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Lopressor out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Lopressor overdose are- difficult or slowed breathing, fainting, severe dizziness, very slow heart rate, weakness.

More Information
Lopressor may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness. These effects may worsen if Lopressor is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Lopressor with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Lopressor should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
